SPORTING.
TURF TOPIC'S. (Ey "Moturoa."; The Duiiedin and Woodville meetings open to-day. Taringamutu is not overweighted in the Woodville Cup. Acceptances for the first day of the Wailgan li Trotting Club's meeting close on Saturday. Gold Palutine, who ran so well at Ellerslie, is in fine nick for Woodville engagements. Interlude is taking on the hig guns at Woodville, but Hyginas and one or two other; may keep lur very busy. Pannnire appears to have been pitchforked into the sprints ac Diinedin, and most people will be very surprised if lie fails to s ore at the meeting. Tlie new telegraph regulations regarding the sending of betting wires appear to lie fairly stringent, but it is wonderful how the Bar Yons overcome such trifles. >Still, "no reply" telegrams will be held up until "fresh arrangements" have been completed. flood Hope beat a good lot in tlie Middle Park Plate at ITiecarton the other day. and on paper looks io have a fair chance of annexim; :i weight-for-age event at the Duucdin meeting this week.
Mahzoltov is a useful sort of customer engaged at the Woodville meetings. This noddy had bad luck to get beaten at Foxton, Glorify was reckoned "shot's eye" for a heat at (lie Te Kniti meeting, but went down with a loml.thud. It cost Marton punters a pile. Balboa, Colonel Soult and Mullingar pre not h.'.rshlv treated in the Waugaiuu Cup. A good field should go to the post, and the race bears an open appearance.
Another touch problem is the Flying Handicap. Any one of the dozen topweights might win, though the public may prefer the chances of Nones, Panmure and Tree Lucerne. Taraualii has nine reps in the race. Hiishmaii and Depredation are well loaded in the Juvenile Handicap. Tilt weights look nil iti favor of Bjorneborg and Tack Jellicoe.
Rewi Poto tops the list in the Stewards" Handicap (8} furlongs), with 9.1, and may hold the top-weights safe, but Ludoguer 8.1, Marco Rcllo 7.12, and Rertrada 7.7 are all handily treated. A lot of old timers figure in the Westmcre Hurdles. Vascular may keep the heavy-weights at their best gait, but if Collector can stay two miles what sort of a chance would he have with 0.9? Mr. A. Alexander's roan filly, by Hallowmas—Vivandel. is growing into a beauty. She is one of the most promising looking fillies running at Bushy Park at the present time, and as the (irst of the Hallowmas breed Mr. .Tack Hay has heaps of tickets on her. Working with Mr. Hay at present, are Tom Vivian and "Smiler" Vaugh.ui, both well-known to Hawera sport's.
