OBITUARY.
MR. CHARLES TUXBRIDGE. Another of the old identities of Kew Plymouth, Mr. Charles Tunbridgc. pa*»•ri away early yesterdn v morninjr. Hi was born in June, 1845, at Ptvn-omli, England, and in IKCO enlisted at Madras in the t2nd Light Infantry, beint; a member of the band. Tliree years later he came to New Zealand with his regiment, b'?ing stationed at Otahuhu and afterwards at Tauranga. Subsequently he fought at the Gate TV New Plymouth. lie returned to England with his regiment, and shortly after obtaining his discharge in 1873 came back to New Plymouth, and in the following year became Sergeant of the Taramiki liiiuhrangers. In 1877 he became secretary of the Foresters Lodge, a position which he continued to hold up to the time of his death. For many years he was manager ntad book-keeper for Mr. John Abbott, retiring from business life In 1!H». It was, however, as lodfje secretary that the deceased wus best known, hie interest in this work and his enthusiasm over matters connected with Court Waireka and the / A,O.F. did much to popularise the order. He wag a true friend of the members, being always ready with helpful advice and practical assistance, and his services were highly appreciated. Last week ho was elected treasurer of the Subsidiary High Court of Foresters for New Zealand. The late Mr. Tunbridge was married in 'SCB to a daughter of the late Mr, John Hutching, of Jersey, and had five soni and five daughters.
