IN MESOPOTAMIA.
KUT TO BE HELD. BRITISH POSITION'S FIRM. Received Feb. 9, '„.o p.m. Delhi, Feb. S. A communique says that Genera! Townshend is holding Kut-el-Amara as a point of strategical value. General Aylmer's operations are intended to support him. There is no withdrawal contemplated. The newspapers give prominence to the communique under the heading. "Kilt to be held." They state it is clear that the British are firmly established in their positions in Mesopotamia, and it is evident the forces are settling down to trench warfare until the weather improves. CHIVALRY OF TURKS. London, Feb. 8. A British officer tells a story of the chivalry of the Turks at Ctcsiphon. A barge with three hundred British wounded stuck in the mud. with the medical personnel aboard, and had to he abandoned. The Turks towed her off under the white (las and sent her back to the British camp unharmed.
