DISTRICT NEWS.
TARATA, (From Our Own Correspondent). The Tarata Dog Trial Club has held its annual meeting. The balance-sheet,. as before published, disclosed a very creditable state of affairs. The following were appointed to the committee:— Messrs H. Lambert (chairman), W, Topping (secretary), J. Drummond (treasurer), H. Dowman, J. Waite, Rolfe, A. E. Taylor and R. Weston. They have set the ball rolling, and the visiting public may depend that the trial will bo kept up to its usual high standard. The Loan and Mercantile Co. held its first sheep fair at Tarata last Friday. Although very unfavorable weather prevailed, there was a good yarding, and the prices obtained were very satisfactory. Hay-making operations are practically over, and our district looks exceptionally well, there being an abundance of feed. The weather conditions for turnips have been very suitable, and some good crops may be seen. The lamb-shearing is over, and the sheep farmers' trials are beginning to case. The cream supply at our local factory is keeping up well, and with the good prices obtained for butter the season's working should bo a very profitable one. The contractors arc busy giving the road between Tarata and Pukeho its yearly supply of metal. Our local school re-opened on January 31. The pupils' efforts towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund realised £lO. This amount has been forwarded to the proper quarters. The pupils arc to be heartily congratulated upon their fine patriotic spirit.
