The usual monthly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in the Town Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Mr. F. W. Sam'lford, who presided in ithe absence of the Mayor, Mrs. Colvile, Revs. Colvile and Chappell, Messrs. J, Paton and E. C. Hughes (secretary). The inspector's report was received and it was resolved that Mr. Mason, of Stratford, be engaged to examine certain horses mentioned in the report. The Justice Department acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Society regarding a suggested amendment of the Police Offences Act, and stated that this was noted and would be dealt with when the act was amended. The treasurer (Mr. J. Paton) reported receipt of a number of subscriptions.
