SPORTING.

.. EGMONT SUMMER MEETING, •SECOND DAY. Glorious summer weather again favored the Egmont Racing Club for the concluding day of the Cup meeting. The attendance was again largo, and the racing was -the finest ever seen on the course. Mr. George Morse was in great form, and the finish' in the Waimate Handicap alone was worth the trip to Hawera. The eleven running fought out a desperate finish, and not twenty yards separated first and last horses. It was a glorious sight to see whips out all round, and game little Astor struggling home in front of the bunch. The Atkinson Memorial Handicap was another pretty race, and the crack Auckland mare, Merry Roe, put up a great performance in winning as she did. Not only did she carry the greatest weight that has been home first since Battle Axe won in 1902, but she clipped H sees off Bertrada's record, running the ten furlongs in 2min 7sec. Florist again proved her superiority amongst the .hurdlers, and carried her 11.5 home in front in good time—2.4o. The course was in fine order, as the times showed, and everything passed off smoothly and without accident. The jockey's 'board was capably managed by Mr. L. 0. Hooker, and visitors remarked that it was one of the most up-to-date structures in the Dominion". Numbers, jockeys, places at the post, over-weights, allowance's, dividends and times—everything was shown most distinctly, and the Stratford Racing Club should think seriously of erecting a similar structure on their course before next meeting. Tlie Hawera Stakes produced a good race between Mr. Greenwood's pair and Flying Start. All three were pushed at the finish, and the race was by no means the walk-over that the bare result would lead one to expect. The Lyric Orchestra again charmed the public with delightful music. The secretary, Mr. J. Turton, kept everything moving briskly, and the press representatives have to thank the Club's officials for many little attentions which make the pen-pushers' toil less arduous. Mr. O'Connor again slipped the fields in good style, and Mr. W. H. Hartgill's decisions were hoisted promptly. Results:
