.. XGMON'T SUMMER- HEETOu,. "J FIRST DAY'S RESULTS., The Egment Racing Club's summer meeting opened at Hawera. yesterday in perfect weather. The course was in fine order and racing interesting throughout the day. The attendance was large, and speculation brisk, the sum of £20,030 being passed through the totulisator. A gentle northerly breeze tempered the heat 6 of the eun, and racing has rarely been carried on under more ideal conditions than prevailed at Hawera yesterday. The lawn a and flower-beds evoked universal admiration, and reflected great credit on the caretaker. Mr. A. Morse. Mr. C. O'Connor was in his best form at the barrier, and Mr. Ceo. Morse's adjustments resulted in fine finishes. Mr. \Y. H. Hartgill's decisions were promptly registered, and left no room for argument. Mr. J. McMalion was the stipendiary present, but his billet was an easy one. Favorites had a good innings, Florist, Merry Roe, Bimeter, Interlude and BlackAda being well-backed ones to pay dividends, though the failures of Glcnrov Royal Chef, Leah Klcsluia, Crown Pearl and Paraoa cut into the public's winnings. The catering was in the hands of Du?tins, Ltd., and was up to their usual .standard. Mr. F. Whittle conducted the publican's booth excellently. The Lyric Orchestra supplied the music, which was of the best. The totalisator put through £20.030 as against £10,027 on the corresponding day last year. ,' r - T i Results:—

The Egmont Stakes drew a field of eight, Mr. G. D. Greenwood's'bracketed pair carrying the bulk of the , money. Dimeter led from end to end, and was j followed home by his stable mate, Empeiador. Bimeter is in great nick at pre.-.eut, and it is hard to say what he would have done with Astor, Tirana, i'aul (iienroy had Mr. Greenwood elected rn stm t him in the Flying Handicap. For the second day's racing to-day, the prospects ars exceedingly bright. Patrons may expect some very interesting racing. The acceptances are very satisfactory. The following horses do not appeal' to have been too harshly treated in their various engagements: Merry Roe, Bisogne, Play-Off, Avon Park, Collector, White Bhue, and Hanpai. Mr Greenwood's pair are likely tn have a strong following in the Hawera Stakes on the strength of their brilliant performances on the first day.
