KITCHENER'S DEMANDS ON IRELAND.
ASKED FOR 5000 MEN AND GOT ' 100,000. I An interesting revelation was made by Mr. .Tolm Redmond recently at recruiting conference at Waterl'oril. . "At the beginning of the war," he said, "I.ord Kitchener said to me: 'Can you guarantee .jOOO men from Ireland? If yon eau T will soy 'Thank yon'; if you can guarantee 12,000 T will say I am deeply obliged.' It was not fioou or 12,000, hut 100,000 that had been sent from Ireland. Ireland, indeed, lias been to me little short of n miracle." He also said that h<> had an instinct strong upon him that the fiernian power was rapidly waning. "I am convinced of this,'' be declared, "and so is every man at the front, thai, so far as the western front is concerned, we have got the upper hand definitely. I am convinced that this war will come to an end sooner than the majority of people believe, and the sacrifices asked will therefore not be as great as if this war continued for one or two years more. At the same time, you' have got to make up your minds to prepare for what is possible, and your duty is to provide reserve battalions with a steady flow of recruits."
