' BAWERA NOTES. Some good gallops were done on the grass track at Hawera on Saturday morning. Recorder did five furlongs in good time; Astor went six furlongs in 1.18%, while Emperador did five furlongs in 1.4, easily. Avon Park had the be3t of Royal Dragoon over five furlongs in 1.5, and Tirana broke 50sec over four furlongs. Crawford ran seven furlongs in 1.38, while Florist did very promising work over fences. . Battle Eve beat Flying Start in I.IC over six furlongs. The besi gallop of tho morning was that of Play-Off, who sprinted four furlongs in oOsees, very easily. It is rumored that Emperador is not starting in the Cup. If this is so, and with Merry Roe in Auckland, there is a prospect of only five starters, the smallest field for some years.
