THE SOCIALIST SPLIT. A LEADER'S VIEWS. Received Jan. 28, 8.30 p.m.New York, Jan. 27. The' newspaper Outlook interviewed Herr Liebknecht, who is very despondent. He said that there were now two Socialist parties in Germany, as a split had come. He blamed the censorship and' helplessness of Socialists ia resisting the outbreak of war. "Americans cannot imagine the awful power of the military. |n an hour we were cut off from everyone, and became a separate call in the body politic. Every mental thinker is a prisoner. It is a war of conquest. There are rich mines in. Franco and Belgium that will never be relinquished. The Socialists, without the press, never understood the situation." Herr Liebknecht admitted the truth, ia his interview, of the remark that the German Socialists had been cowardly, tab people must remember that they owned property worth millions sterling, including prewei, theatre*, and halls.
