ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATAL COLLISION WITH TRAMCAR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, January 26. A violent collision occurred in Khy--ber Pass this morning between a van, owned by Messrs E. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., and % tram-car, bound from Onehunga to the city. The driver, Ernest Neal, had the base of-liis skull fractured, and died within an hour at the hospital. Both horses were severely cut, and one had to be destroyed. Deceased was thirty-two years of age, having a wife and two children. The van was half-way down the incline when two trams approached from opposite directions. Just as they drew near, the horses attached to the van suddenly swerved across both sets of rails. One tram struck the van, and the other collided with the horses. The driver of the van was thrown heavily, and never recovered consciousness. The motor-men did everything possible to avoid a collision, but the horses had swerved too late.
WHARF LABORER KILLED. Auckland, Jan. 2S. Percival Henry Williams died in the hospital as the result of injuries received while working in the hold of the steamer Taratfera. A heavy cask rolled against a large case and Williams' leg was caught between them and severely crashed.
