HELPING THE ALLIES. - BATiSFACTOHT RECBtnTINa Simla, Jan. 28. All over India efforts to assist the Allies are steadily proceeding and gifts •of a public and private nature continue to pour in. Besides the Government factories all the workshops on the great railway systems are engaged in the manufacture of munitions, transport wagons and other war material. Many ruling princes have also lent workshops. The aeroplane fund is strongly supported, and already £45,000 has been remitted to Britain for the first twenty aeroplanes. Amongst many munificent gifts the Maharajah Sindhia of Gwalior has given three additional aeroplanes for the Mesopotamia 'expedition. Recruiting is, on the whole, generally very satisfactory. The response of the Gurkhas is particularly good, and the Mahomedans, Sikhs »nd Rajputs are also coming freely from certain districts.
