Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., has been appointed the Eltham delegate to the Taranaki War Relief Fund Association.

The Rev. Jasper Calder, of Auckland, and the Rev. IT. A. Johnson, of Whangsrei, have been appointed chaplains to the New Zealand Defence Forces.

At a meeting of the Senate of the Xew Zealand University yesterday Professor MacMillan Brown was elected Vice-Chancellor, in succession to Sir Christopher Bowcn, who lias resigned. Mr. E. Sargeant, son of Mr. R, W. Sargeant, Hawera, ha-s enlisted iu England with the Royal Medical Corps, and when lie last wrote wag in camp at Sheffield.

Sergt. R. A. Brewer, the late secretary of the I'atea Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd.. has received still further promotion, being now Scrgt.-Major in the lltli ■ Artillery Reinforcements. Advice has been received that Mr. Malcolm Ross, New Zealand War Correspondent, has now recovered from hi* recent illness and *has resumed his duties,

Mr. J. Young, the newiy-elected member of the Taranaki Education Boa«, was welcomed to the Hoard vesterday. The chairman (Mr. H. Trimble) expressed his pleasure ut again seeing Mr. Young a member of the Board. The resignation, of Sir Charles Bowen has been accepted by the Senate of the. Xew Zealand University. Sir Charles has been one of the representatives of Canterbury College on the Senate for many years and the Senate expressed its appreciation of his long and valuable services.

Mr. David Charteris, of Xew Plymouth, received advice from the Defence Department yesterday that his son Malcolm, previously reported as missing, was killed in action at Oallipoli in the early days of the campaign. Malcolm Charteris was well known in the Eltham and Xgaerc districts, and was held la much esteem.

A 'Press Association cablegram received from Sydney on Tuesday stated that Lieutenant Maiby Dodwcll, who win ki'led at the Dardanelles on December 19, was educated in New Zealand. He was a well-known athlete in Wellington about 17 years ago. He was one of the early members of the Wellington Amateur' Athletic Club, and a fust sprinter over 100 yards and 220 yards. The deatli of Dr. F. Otto Inglis occurred last Friday night at St. Metier"* Hay, Auckland. Dr. Inglis. who came to New Zealand several years aso from Peebles, Scotland, had an excellent practice at Te Arolm. Two year* ago he married the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Muir Douglas, and he was spending the Christinas holidays at St. TTclier's when lie got a chill, that turned to pneumonia and other complications. Mr. J. A. Thomson, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company. Penan?, pai.l a short visit to New Plymouth on Tu««day. Being a shareholder in the Tai»naki (N.Z.) Oil Wells, Ltd., he naturally paid a visit to the works at Moturoa. and was surprised at the company erecting such a large refinery. Mr. Thomson's visit being very brief, he had only time to see one or two of the historical places, amongst them being St. Mary'a Church and Marsland Hill.

Mr. Ronald Paul was the recipient of a presentation from the Ngamotu Seaside Committee on Tuesday evening on the pecasion of his appraoehing marriage. The Chairnmn (Mr. .)'. Huyden), in making the presentation referred to Mr. Paul's sterling worth on the Committee, and hoped that the inscription of his name on the roll of the henediets would not deprive the Committee of his valuable services in the future. Mr. Paul thanked the Committee for the kindly expressions and good will expressed towards the future Mrs. Paul and himself, lie referred to the rapid development of the Ngamotu Foreshore, which was destined to become the greatest bathing resort of the .Dominion, and that instead of his services being lost to the Committee he would venture to say that there would be two worker* instead ot one as at present. The presentation took the form of a silver coffee pM„ inscribed: "Presented to llonnld Pa"' 'tf the Xgnmotu Seaside Committee on tlw occasion of his marriage, January, 1»10.
