TUBF TOPICS, (By "Moturoa,")' Takapuna, races to-day. Fgmont acceptances close tO'morro.w< Kaoiki has broken it for a-win. King Lupin is favorite for the Tftkapuna Cup. The office humorist recokns that Bee stands for, Boskcr! Ratana—in a stone too light—won the Fox'lon Cup from end to end. The heads will bo rushing Gallupin •for one of those minor hurdle races at Takapuna this week. It looked as if Florist should have won each day at Foxton. Both were close finishes. Namur, the outsider of 'the feld in the January Handicap, just se.rin'okd home in front of the unlucky Iceberg, and paid a stunning price. Wanganui will be "harking" Master Lupin and I'cnise Orwe to-day, and the latter should run th= bettor race cf the, pair. Although not, nearly ready, I'arifoim was equal to landing a race- from a poor crowd at Foxton. There were some "roughieV there, alright. Mossman will have another slap at winning a race at Takapuna to-day. Concerning which a local jockster inquires, "Can it he did?" Ngapoto will have to show improved form to have- a chance with Master Kegel and Tenacious at the weights today. The local prad is no champ. Rewa Rewa is not a> very striking" looking prad, but when \Vanganui puts it on her she just strolls home and pays the limit. Cease Fire, who won the Newmarket Stakes, at Foxton, is a well-named neddy, being by Field Battery—Truce. The Highden prad is very useful. Princess Moutoct had a winning chance each day at Foxton, but when called upon for a finishing run in the straight she curled right up and said unmistakeably, "I won't try a yard!" ' Akahai, of whom great tHings were expected, was beaten out of a placo each start at Foxton, which just emphasises the pool' class seen out in the "hurrynps" at Stratford recently. If Merry Roe were herself—which she isn't—sho would have to be reckoned with in Ithe'Egmont Cup. Welcome Nugget, Rewi Poto and El Gallo read as well as any of the fit division.' A pretty field is engaged in the Flying at Hiiwera. The top-woights appear to be' well cared for, and Tree Lucerne, Glenroy and Play-Off—all on the 7.13 mark—may have more friends. Astor has slipped in lightly with 7.4. After a lengthy enforced spell Marton figures in the entries at Hawcra. He is looking the picture, of health, and a few sharp gallops in company should fit him for a big hurdle race in the autumn.

The hurdlers engaged at the Egmorit meeting are much of a muchness, and there is only a stone between top and bottom weights. Cornice has been showing good form, but Florist and Collector have only to jump to beat her for pace in the straight. Bivouac raii another brace of sterling races at Foxton, but his old bad luck sticks to him like a guesser to a hayseed. When a horso is a trier every start it is hard to win a race, The handicapper has you always in his mind, and there, is generally one of the '"occasionals" to pop up and "pip" you.

Sir,—ln glancing over the weights in the Flying Handicap for the first day at Hawcra, it is very difficult to follow the handicapper. What chance have Kaniki, Combustion, Black Ada, Grattan, and Lady Black with Sedd-el Bahr, Tree Lucerne! and Astor? In my opinion, the Flying Handicap is one of the worst efforts Handicapper Morse has made, and he niust be like the. old horse, aoin'g off in form.—l am, etc., * OLD SPORT.
