ORIGINAL VERSE.

ANZAC. They bave carved their names on the scroll of fame In letters of deepest red, And we in this island home of ours Are proud of New Zealand's dead; They have given the very best they had And shown to a watching world That wherever they're born, the breed 13 • there, Whenever the flag's unfurled. They have written their names on history's page, In a glorious blaze of light, So that those they leave behind them May have Freedom, Peace, and Right. And they're sleeping the sleep of the brave and free, In a far oil' distantjand, Away from '.the home they loved 90 well, A brave and gallant band. So you mothers of New Zealand, to you we bow the head, Ye Mothers of the living, ye' Mothon of the dead, For the son you bore and loved so well Have proved to a watching world That when duty calls they're ready to fight, Whenever the flag's unfurled. They've carved their names on the scroll of fame, 'Tis written on history's page, And the glorious deeds of Anzac Will live throughout the age, So that future generations May look back with love and pride As they learn of the deeds of valor, Where their fathers fought and died. —H, J. Englefield. Koru, Jan. 24, 1910.
