RECRUITING NEXT WEEK, THE FETE OF NATIONS. • NEARLY TWO HUNDRED PERFORMERS." The organisation of armies to (alts part in the Taranaki Battle of the Bullion is progressing so Well that St is hoped to start the recruiting campaign next week. New Plymouth, Waitara, Inglewood, and Patea aro busy equipping their armies; Eltham will 'draw up its plans to-night; a public meeting wiu be held at Hawera to-morrow night to discuss the scheme; while on Friday, Stratford will consider the recommendation of the Patriotic Committee- to enter an army. .The end of the week will therefore see the total number of armies participating, and the armies Will 4hen be given their titleß and colors. It is now proposed to start the recruiting campaigns for building up the nrmies next week, and this phase of the Carnival will occupy until about the middle of February. Three weeks will then be devoted to "firing," which is the real Battle of the Bullion, and this period will be the most exciting part of the Carnival. Already the towns which have decided to outer armies are arranging means of raising money and everywhere plans are being drawn up to hold a week's carnival, various entertainments, and gift auction sales, One of the principal features of the last day's of the Carnival in New Plymouth will be the Fete of Nations, which will pfobably be held every night from March 2 to' March 11. The first rcheaWftl was held last night itnd J4r. ty". Lints (the organiser) states 1 thstt the enthusiasm shown augurs well for the success of the entertainment. The services of about 80 adults and about 100 children have been obtained, and regular practices will now bo held. The fete will comprise spectatcular marches with electrical effects and mountings, ballets, all the latest songs, etc. Miss C, Lcatham has kindly consented to play for the practices. The headquarters of the Carnival executive will be established from today in an office in Devon Street iiext to tho Marble Bar. The executive have to thank Messrs. Gilmour and Clarke, and Mr. M. Hblah for the use of their motor-cars. A good deal of travelling is necessary and owners of care will be assisting the Carnival by lending their motors for aq afternoon or evening. ,„^_,
