RETURNED SOLDIERS, Dlt. THAOKER'S COMPLAINTS. By TelegrAph.—Prejs Association, Wellington, Yesterday. Replying to Dr. Thackcr's criticism of the treatment-of -returned wlliers, the Hon. ?,fr. Russo.l states that there was only one case in Dr. Thacker'a list which eoneornca the 'Public Health Department, that of William Angrove. Tlie Minister states that lie wired Dr. Herbert, Medical Superintendent at Eotorua, for full particulars, and received the following- reply:—"Stateclient absolutely untrue. Angrovc arrived on the evening of the 17th and was at once admitted, seen, by an assistant and told to attend my usual morning inspection of new patients. Net* day he did not appear. lam tine* informed that he returned to Auckland next day. Every new patient is examined at once and starts his treatment next morning. No patient is over told in any circumstances to wait another day. As the man went off with hit and our papers, I have no record of whaj sent him." i [Dr. Thacker'a statement was is follows:—Charles Angrovc {25 years of age), of the 15th North Auckland RegU ment, landed in Gallipoli on April 25. On June '2O he was wounded in th» right knee. On Monday last he «w sent to Rotorua for treatment. Ht> states that he applied for treatment each day and 1 was told to return on the, following day. Nothing was done for him, and he returned to Auckland on Thursday. Dr. Thacker examined ingrove's leg. He, states that hot paoks and massage are necessary to prevent contraction of the muscles above the knee. If such injuries do not rcceiv* prompt treatment, limbs arc likely t« suffer permanent injury.]
