MEETTXCI OE WORKS Co\! MirCEE. The Works Committee oi the Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (chairman), and Crs. L. M. Monteath, J. S. S. Medley, J. Haydcn, !■'. K. Wilson, A. 11. Johnstone, W, A. Colli.', W. F. Short, F. J. Hill, S. J. Smith, E. Griffiths, J. T. Mannix, and A. V.. Wf.U kins. A petition was received from so'-cra' billiard-room proprietors asking for a reduction of their license fees, on the. grounds that as the war had taken away so many men their busii'es-i had been affected! After some disclaim it was decided not to accede t'J the rrn,.i:st. It was decided to accept the 011.-r of Mr. A. Cray (Director of the Ti'chnieU College) to have carried out the* examination of drivers of private motorcars and motor cjvlcs. The engineer was authorised tr, tarry out kcrbing' from Darnell Street to the Waiwakaiho bridge, and from the freezing works to the terminus at Motmva. The engineer was instructed to pr >• pare a report on the relative cost of flagging and asphalting tne footpaths in Devon Street and clscwiior-? i), th» borough.
