(From Our Own Correspondents.) RAHOTU. That the women of New Zealand are doing their share to assist in the present crisis—in addition to sending forth their loved ones to light for the countryis shown by what has been done in a small community like Raholn, and it is probably typical of every township in New Zealand. In June last a commiti tee was set up to work in aid of the various sick and wounded soldiers' funds, and a glance at the work done up to December .31, from the report to be submitted 10 a general meeting, shows that they have indeed worked hard in sowing, holding afternoon teas. etc. Gross cash receipts amounted to £l5O 3s. Rothery, Annis, McLean, Williams, Mouldy, Iliingwor'th concert)", Barratt, W. Fleming, Robertson, Williamson; Miss Dew, Morrow (2), Taylor (2), Wright (2|, Willeox, Fleming, Barratt. Some have contributed twice and the others will do likewise in turn. £2O lias been 'expended in materials and there is now in hand £l2l 3s. About £0 Ms's worth of material is yet on hand. The balance was made up by the ladies into 12 night shirts, 24 pairs of pyjamas, 24 day shiKls, 30 flannel singlets, ,21 nightingales and 14 pair of socks. These have been dispatched together with two pair pyjamas, seven dozen handkerchiefs, seven pair bed socks, 17 pair socks, seven mufflers, five nightingales, four pair mittens, four pair.face clothes, cholera belt and old linen, siven by Mesdames Knowles, W. R. 'Wright." W. Corkin. Sluirrock, Hughson. O'Rorke, Barker, Robinson, Kitehingman and Bowers. The Committee wish to thank all who contributed and also Messrs. Hughson and Sons' staff for packing. Mr. Parker for music at the socials and Mr. S'cliinkel, caretaker, for invaluable services rendered.

A total of 2(i Christmas cakes, five largeboxes of choealates, one pudding, three boxes of soap, six pocke.l; knives, writing pads, pocket wallets, pencils, etc.. were contributed by Mesdames W. R. Wright, Knowles, Baker (2), Morrow, Colmer, Hopkins, Kitchingman, W. Fleming, W. Corkin, Fisher. T. I'. Hughson jnr., Misses Dew. Cooke, Wright, and Mr. O'Doniiell. A ease sent for the Serbians contained clothes donated by Mesdames Q. Hughson, W. Guild, -Wi" Kupe, Kilpatrick, Miss Symons, McAllum (Pungarehul, Mesdames T. P. Hnghson, Robertson, Willcox, Knowles (Rahotu). J. C. O'Rorke (Oaonui). New material was given by Mesdames W. R. Wright and Field, whilst 22s collected in a bottle at Hughson's store was devoted to the purchase of material. Mrs. W. R. Wright as President and Mrs. .1. B. Knowles as Secretary have had a busy time organising, but they have been ably supported by the whole district. The ladies intend .to continue the good work this year. Of the balance in hand £SO will he forwarded to the Y.M.C.A. and £SO to the Red Cross Fund.

EGMOXT VILLAGE. The annual tea and pienie in connection with the Church of England Sunday School was held in the Egmont Village school grounds on Tuesday, the 17th inst., the weather being everything that could be desired for the occasion. The ground is an ideal spot for a picnic on a hot summer day, as abundant sliade is provided by the splendid growth of forest and ornamental trees. The happiness of the children was well looked alter by the ladies of the congregation, who provided the necessary food in their usual liberal manner. Gaines, such as running and jumping were indulged in, prizes being awarded to the winners.

The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Kempthorne were present during the afternoon, and helped to make the function enjoyable. The Rev. gentleman, who has been in charge of the Inglewood Parish for upwards of three years, is leaving this district for Taumaranui at the end of the present month, and the gathering took the form of a farewell to the Ttev. gentleman and his family, who have our best wishes for their future welfare.

The reaper and binder is busy at work on several farms cutting the earlier crops, which are very good. The. weather conditions being very favorable for harvesting. At the time of writing we are having a splendid downfall of rain, which will stimulate the growth of turnips and swedes and help to get them past the llv and the birds.

Mrs. Morton, sen., of Hamilton, is at present staving with her son, Mr. Arthur Morton.

}liss Daisley. of Auckland, is spending a few weeks with her brother, Mr. R, Daisley.
