A fatal drowning accident occurred here this ttftcriiopn, by which Ivan Vowless, the eldest son of Mr. W. Vowle", foreman at the Unworn railway station, lost his life. Vowless, in company with his younger brother and three other huh named Jaekn, Mcßobbie, and Gungall, went to the zig-zag beach this morning for a picnic. In the afternoon the boys went into a pool to have a Imtlie, and while there it was suggested they should have a competition to see who eoulil bold his bond, under water for the lotige.it period. They all had their turn and oamn through the experience without mishap, ontil it came to deceased's turn, Vow. less kept bis head under the water lor some time, and then on corning out he groaned and fell hack dead into h'n brother's arms. Vowless was carried ashore, artilicial respiration was resorted to, uie: ;,n» services of Dr. Thornton were obL.m. ■* but without result. It is stni,d that the deceased hud been troubled with a we,ak heart for some time. Vowless, who was employed at Mr. YVestwood's pharmacy, war- a popular lad, and his parents will luivo the sympathy of the whole district.
