DISTRICT NEWS.
OAKURA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening a dance was held in the Oakura Hall, in aid of the Pied Cross Fund. Possibly owing to the shortness of the notice and the damp weather the attendance was not very large, nevertheless the entire function proved most enjoyable. Mr. W Sorrenson made an efficient M.C., whilst M? Good's music was up to his usual high standard. Mrs. W. Morris played extras. During the evening Mr. Murdoch rendered a couple of songs, which were much appreciated. Supper was provided J>- 'Alesdames T; Smart and J. West. "a. meeting of the settlers of the OaißiM and Tataraimaka districts is to be iiald at Oakura on Thursday' evening xe/ ilf! purpose of arranging details for a farewell social which is to be tendered to two of our young men, Messrs R. Morris and F. Cowling, who hive volunteered to serve the Empire at, the front. They are at present in camp, but will be home on final leave next week.
