Sir,—T have heard to-da,v that the ;Miriister of Internal -Affairs hag granted a passport to a. young ninn tlut ■worked in the permanent way sin the railways in the Stratford district to go Home to the Old Country (Ireland) to see liis mother. Now that the Empire is fighting for its very existence ftnd 1 aranaki district is 34 men short for its quota for the 13th ileinforeements, 1 would like to know, Mr. Editor, why did he get a. passport on such a frivolous excuse to le&ve this country at such a time as the present, Will any of your patriotic committees or recruiting officers enquire from the Minister why, as the boat he sails in leaves Wellington (where he is. at present) sonic time' next week? 11 is dimply a'lisiml when fathers are sending their sons to the front to fight lor the Empire and get killed while this "hero" can go Home on a holidav.— I am, etc. '.LOYALIST, '. ■ Stratford, January 2ft. • '
