Arrangements for the Taranaki Carhf« vj! are now well in hand, and the organisation of armies for the Batt'e of the Bullion is being taken up in several parts of the province. At present it is proposed to divide New Plymouth into two areas, each area to enter an army. Waitara has decided to enter an army, and the preliminary arrangements have been made. Tim .scheme is to be launched at a meeting there on Monday night. Stratford will also take up the cail to arms on Monday night, and the idea is meeting' with enthusiastic support there. Ilnwera will dlscusa the matter next week, and it is hoped the coastal district, with Opunake as headquarters, will also come into line and enter an army. Meeting* were held at liltliam anil nti Tatea, last night, and at each place the proposals were received with enthusiasm. Mr.McLeod visited Eltham and explained the scheme to th« meeting, and Mr. W. Lints (the organ« iser of the Carnival), and Mr. J. Ckrke attended the meet ing at Patea. The most important matter to ke dM eided now is the organisation ,of armle», and when all the forces of the provinca have been mobilised the great battle will commence. For the period of three or four weeks the Battle of the Bunion will proceed, and then there will be the Carnival at New Plymouth. A Fete o! There was alarge attendance, including delegates frtm Alton; arid other outlying • portions of the district. Mr. C. A. Larcomb, Mayor of Patea, presided. Mr. C. S. Fleming, delegate 4o tfctf | Tai'anaki War Relief executive, referred to the fact that the Carnival scheme had already been before the executive, who welcomed it as a splendid idea, coming at an opportune time. M was felt that Taranaki should organise to raise money for returned soldiers, and the Battle of the Bullion appeared to bo a splendid! means of bringing Taranaki together tor 'this object. : " Mr. J. Clarke addressed-the meeting, and outlined the scheme on the lin«a, already made public. Ho emphasised that every district would be credited with what it raised. Mr. H, C'.
