Sailing vessels, as well as steamers, are reaping a rich harvest just now, *onsequent on the shortage'of tonnage ow-ing-to the war. The ».-eneli barque Boa Premie", which arrived at Newcastle on December 25 from Maryport, via Townsville, has been chartered to load coal for Valparaiso at 35s per ton, and thence take nitrate to the Mediterranean at 70s per ton. The Bon Premier was originally known as the German barque Frieda Malm, and was captured by an Allied cruiser and sold through the prize court. The ship Talus, which left Newcastle on December 21 for San Francisco with 3233 tons of coal, has been chartered to load wheat at 'Frisco for the United Kingdom at £5 15s per ton for the round trip. The Talus will therefore have £18,705 to lift in freight. As the round voyage will occupy about nine months, the ship-owner should have an excellent return for his investment. The. fourmasted Speedonia, which is also an exGerman vessel, of 3057 tons register, has been chartered to load coal at Newcastle for the West Coast at £1 10s per ton, while the four-masted barque -Oweenco, at present at Newcastle, is to receive £1 10s Gd for a similar voyage. . The steamer City of Norwich, which arrived at Sydney on December 25 from Glasgow with general cargo, is receiving £SGSO per month on time charter She is u vessel of 6352 tons register.'
