THE HOLLAND FLOODS.
GREAT DEVASTATION. . PISHING FLEET DESTROYED. LAND RENDERED INFERTILE. By Cable.—Press Association— Copyright Received Jan. 18, 11.5 p.m. „, Amsterdam, Jan. 18. The greater part of the fishing fleet was destroyed at Marken, and only four liouses are undamaged. Two ships were lifted on to the roof* ■>i a group of houses, wrecking the d>.\ elliugs and drowning the inmates. In another house the eight inmates clambered from beam to beam as the thouse settled down when the water* rose but they fell exhausted and were drowned. The financial loss is enormous on the mainland. Soldiers heroically dashed into the breaches in the dykes and vainly endeavored to stem the tide. Scores of rich farmers are penniless, and it will be years before the land ««' covers its fertility.
