LOAN OF £55,000 AT 5 PER CENT. fTHE Bank of New Zealand invites tenders for the purchase of the debentures of the above Loan; 5 per cent, of the purchase money to be lodged with the tender, the balance to be payable on or before January 31, 1916. The Loan is repayable at par on April 1, 1933. It is for the purposes of Tramway construction in the New Plymouth Borough on the Electric Overhead Trolley system. The Loan is secured by a charge upon the Tramway undertaking, and also by a special rate of lOd in the £ on the annual rateable value of properties in the New Plymouth Borough. Prospectuses can be obtained by application to any Branch of the Bank of New Zealand, which will receive tenders and give receipts for deposit moneys. Tenders must be at or above par. Tenderers below par will receive no allotment. The subscription list will be dosed om Saturday, January 22, 1916.

The mothers of soldiers should read Clause No. 2: WHAT IS THE Y.M.C.A. DOING? The activities of the Y.M.C.A. may be summed up in a few lines. 1. In the Home Camps, Halls, and Marquees with all possible social advanta'ges and privileges with, wherever possible, a secretary in charge. In the cities the Y.M.C.A. buildings, including Gymnasium, Baths, Library, Billiard Tables, etc., thrown open to all, with a card issued broadcast: "Your uniform is sufficient introduction." 2. On the troopships and in camps in Egypt, social work providing the men with home comforts, social enjoyment, etc., keeping them out of cities like Cairo—an effort alone worth all the trouble and expense. 3. Extending the same privileges, as far as practicable, right up to the firing lines. 4. Visiting men :n Hospitals, alleviating their suffering—as far as outside assistance can—giving them whatever comforts are available, and last, but not least, linking them up with their friends and relatives by writing letters and undertaking commissions from lads who in many cases will not see their own again. A fairly complete work which could only he done by specially organised and equipped men. These men we have, and they have done noble work, but they must'have more helpers, and it ig one of our foremost duties to see that they get every possible assistance. N.B.—The whole of the funds raised by the Y.M.C.A. National War Fund i 3 used solely for the work aniongst the troops. Not one penpy of it is diverted to any local work carried on ordinarily by the Associations, nor is the cost of this advertisement
