THE SEASIDE.

To the Editor. Sir,—As one who has but recently become a resident of New Plymouth, on Sunday last I took a walk along the sea-front to Moturoa, and was agreeably surprised to see the amount of gratuitous work that has been (lone by the gentlemen who "have formed themselves into committees. I refer to the Kawaroa Park and Xgajnotu Seaside Committees. It is really astonishing the amount of labor that has been done in these localities recently. New Plymouth and surrounding districts should indeed be very gratified to know and to thank the seaside committees who are doing so much that i s for the, betterment of the town and district. Quite a large number of cottages have 'been erected and are still being erected at Moturoa, and with the advent of the tram service it will be more tlian ever a most attractive spot at which to spend a pleasant day. The Jloturoa beach, so aptly named "the. playshore of the Pacific,'" was on Sunday visited by hundreds, who enjoyed the beautifuj beach and surfbathing, and frolics on the rafts. I was hospitably entertained by members of the committee and thoroughly enjoyed the day's outing. The \main street at the Xgainotu camp, I was informed, was named Ellis Avenue, a very appropriate one indeed, .being named after the energetic secretary. And some of the palatial residences have quaint names, sucli as "High .links," "Otazel," "Father's Delighted," "Tipperary," "Anzae," etc., the owners and occupiers, some from inland towns, sill apparently happy and contented and thoroughly enjoying themselves.—l am. etc., ' J. R. HILL.
