PERSONAL.
The Rev, T. (J. Hammond, superintendent of the West Const Maori Mission, is visiting New Plymouth. He is the guest of Mr. Newton' Kin;;. Lance-Corporal Leslie Curtis, of Stratford, who is now in camp at Palmerston North, while diving in the Manawalu River hist Saturday, struck the bottom heavily with his face and narrowly escaped serious injury. He has been in hospital since, (states the Post), and has now been invalided home. Amongst young New Zealanders who have received commissions recently is Konald V. YV. Mackenzie, second son of Mr. James Mackenzie, 1.5.0., F.11.fi.5., formerly Under-Secretary of Lands and Surveyor-General of the Dominion. Lieutenant Mackenzie is 2(i years of age, was horn in Karori, being educated first at the Karori State School, and subsequently at the New Plymouth and Auckland Urammiir Schools. liy profession he is a. surveyor, and has been a Mali officer of the Lands and Survey Department since 1008. Some months ago he obtained leave of absence from the Department and enlisted, joining the special training camp for non-coms.
