WOOL SALES.
(RECORD PRICES AT INVERCARGILL, ' By Telegraph.—Press A'ssodawn. Invercargill, Last Night. To-day's wool salo was delayed in starting until four o'clock, owing to the attitude of buyers requesting brokers that the time for payment bo extended beyond the usual fourteen days to such a .time as ships are available to .carry wool. The buyers stated that up to the Christcluireh sale on January 10 and 11 they had been able to got their purchases away, but this week 17,000 bales had been bought and there was space available for only 7000. Some buyers also have part of their purchases at the Tiinaru sale for which they are unable to procure space. The freight in sight provides space for only 2:!,000 bales, and it is estimated that 70.000 will bo offered during the next four weeks. Therefore the buyers decided that they could not afford to go on under the old conditions of payment, as it would mean a tremendous overdraft at the banks and an ultimate automatic stoppage of operations unless the wool was shipped. After several conferences, the brokers agreed to the buyers' stipulated terms, and consequently farmers have given the same extension for payment to the brokers. , The sale was a record one. 13,704 bales were catalogued and practically all sold. Prices were a penny better all round than Ditnedin and Christchurch ranges. Prices were:—Halfbred, super io good, ITJd to 19d; good to medium, IOJd to 17d; medium to inferior lOd to 10'/,d; fmo crossbred, super to good, 18d to 18jd; good to medium, IOAd to 17Jd; medium to inferior )4Jd to 15V=d; strong crossbreds lGd to 17d; good to medium, luid to Kid; medium to inferior, 141/jd to 14Jd.
