Hornsby lias been requested to become a candidate for the Carterton Mayoralty, rendered vacant by the death of his son, Mr. M. 11 Hornsby, and has consented to do so. If there is another candidate lie Is prepared to stand down. Mr. C. 0. Berg, who for the pait seven years lias been associated with the Wangarnii branch of the New Zealand Flour and Produce Agency Company, Limited, is leaving Wangamii to take up the position of accountant with a leading Xew Plymouth firm. Mr. Berg is an old New Plymouth boy. Mr. W. C. Dudley, of Gpunake, wlicv was recently operated on at Hawen is making good progress. Th« motion was carried in silence, and the Council adjourned for an hour as a mark of respect.
