GENERAL MONRO'S REPORT. THE PROGRAMME COMPLETED, London, Jan. 12. Continuing his report, General Monro says.— At midnight it wa3 only just possible to use the .piers and lighters and it was impossible, to carry out the programme of embarking the troops upon the destroyers alongside the sunken ships on •W Beach, owing to the connecting piers having been washed away. Embarkation at Gully Beach was also impossible, and one lighter went ashore. Nevertheless the programme at W and Y Beaches wag completed at 2.30 a.m. and the troops at Gully Beach were embarked at 4 a.m. The Turkish Artillery was practically Went the whole night until the stores were fired simultaneously by time fuses after the evacuation had been completed. The Turks then fired red lights all along the line and heavily shelled the beaches fod trenches until after daybreak, NEW ZEALAND BRIGADE. "MAGNIPICENTI" Wellington, Jan. 12. *My brigade was magnificent/' writes Brigadier-General Johnston, in a letter referring to late operations at Gallipoli. "New Zealand mothers may hold their heads high;.indeed; we can all he proud of our countrymen, and I thank God I an* fighting with them. With the Mounted Rifles We make the best brigade on the peninsula. The men are fine and well trained, and are yards ahead of some others. It is the right policy to train them in New Zealand, and only ssnd them to us when they are fit to go into the ranks. The Maoris, who have been handed over to me, are good fighten, hard workers, and also are happy and contented." ,
