Abnormally low prices for bananas are at present ruling in the. wholesale market (says the New Zealand Herald). About 12,000 boxes and 3000 bundles ol the. fruit were delivered by the Talune, ivhieh arrived last week, and during the past few days they have been sold at from 25 Od to 4s per box, though the last shipment realised about las per box. Many of the retailers iost money in handling the previous shipment, as a large quantity of the fruit deteriorated during the period of hot, humid weather. Not only have the deliveries from the Talune been beyond the capacity of the market, but the retailers hav» 'been cautious in their buying, with the result that the market' has fallen to the lowest level for five years. As a portion of the fruit was over-ripe on landing, the supplies have had to be sacrificed. While bananas are abnormally cheap, flupplics of other fmits are short, and prices are again hardening.
