PUKEROA CONVALESCENT HOME.
OPENED YESTERDAY. By Telegraph'.—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Nip-lit. Tlie Pnkeroa hospital for convalescent soldiers was opened this afternoon by Hon. G. W. Russell. Two thousand people were present. It was announced that the local Maoris had presented £IOO for the purchase of a piano and rollertop desks for the hospital. Addresses were given by Hons. A. L. Herdman, W. H. Herriesi Di. Pomave, Sir Jas. Carrol!, and Mr. W. Hill (president officer), and several Maori chiefs. Mr. Russell said that the following Rifts had been made to the institution" Wairarapa £IOOO, Hawke's Bay £IOOO, Wanganui £750, Salvation Aniiy £5(10. Gisborne £250, Timaru £IOO, 'and Invereargill £2.50. He understood that the Rotorua people had raised £IOOO for sick and wounded soldiers, and he would like to know where, it was, so that he might get some of it for the Pnkeroa hospital. He also announced that Mr. Clark, of Eskdale. had given a motor-car; Mr. f'Jillies, of Rotorua, a billiard table, and the ladies of the Auckland, Wellington, and Blenheim Patriotic Associations had contributed towards the equipment. The institution will accommodate 4DO men.
