MORE MEN WANTED.
APPEAL FOE TWELVE Af QIfCE, KEXT MOXTH'S TARANAKI TO SUPPLY 156 MEN. An urgent appeal for twelve men from Taranaki was made by Major .1. McNaught, commander of the Taranaki military district, last night. Major McNaught said he had been asked by headquarters to provide 12 infantrymen by next Monday and 8 men for the'mounted rifles by Saturday morning, and up to last night he had secured five for the infantry and three for the mounted rifles. This leaves seven infantry men still required, with three days in which to come forward, and five mounted men required, with two days to enlist. Major MeXanght lias received information tint Taranaxi's quota for the Thirteenth Reinforcements will be the same as that for the Twelfth Reinforcements, namely, 150 men of all ranks. These men will leave Taranaki for Trentham by the mail train on Monday. February 7.
The Wellington Military District put up the excellent performance of sending its quota in almost complete. The Citv failed to the extent of 50 in the infantrV arm, but the district as a- whole has sent in the whole of the infantry required of it. The mobilisation was so worked by the staff at district headquarters that the City shortage was anticipated and an extra call mndt» on other groups. Manawatu, Hawke's Bay. and Wairarapa saved the situation. The only branches in which the district was short at the end of the. day were the Mounted ."Rifles and the Engineers. There ■was lack of a dozen monnteds and eight engineers, hut all these were secured during the day, and are ready to go into en nip next week. Last week's return for the Wellington Military District showed a surplus of 149 infantry, and the whole of thee are being called up to go into camp' next, week to fill some of the vacancies which are still said to exist in the 11th Reinforcements, who went into camp a month ago.
