The. excavations were completed lust 111 Oil 111. The theatre, which has been designed bv the well-known theatre architects Messrs Oierson and Aimer, of Auckland, will not he inferior in any way to the leadill},' picture, theatres of Australasia. It possesses several original features, as well as a spacious lounge, whilst special attention is. being paid to the ventilation and (ire safeguards. The main entrance will be via the present A.B.C. booUhop, whilst there will be exits to tin! hotel right-of-way ami Powderham Street. The lighting and electrics! equipment will he of the latest, and the seats the best that can be procured. In fact, it has been the aim of the architects to design a building that cannot \jc surpassed anywhere in the Dominion. The directors of the Taranaki Amusements, Ltd., propose to bring the Empire Theatre up-to-date on the completion ot the new theatre, and to build a theatre in Waitara at an early dale. Tho directors have, also arranged for tho showing.of special picture?, besides the usual programmes, and to cater in other ways for the public of New Plvmoulji ami Waitara.
