Many heavy sentences have been imposed upon journalists, (businessmen, and laborers in Belgium for alleged treason, espionage, and distribution of so-called seditious, .pamphlets. Freeiving, an informer and servant of the Belgian Ministry, was sentenced to death for assisting a youth to join the Belgian army. Laura Agar, a' needlewoman, was sentenced to'imprisonment for life.
GENERAL ITEMS: COLONEL REPINGTON'S VIEWS. Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, Jan. S. Colonel Repington, the Times' military writer, forecasts the German plans, in the order named, as an ofl'ensive in the West, in Egypt, in Mesopotamia, an attempt to bring in Roumania, and, finally a continuation of the attack against Russia. He warns the Allies that Russia has suffered terribly. ''Let us not think Russia is going to win the war. Let us decide to win ourselves. We shall need a largo superiority of men and guns, and 1,500,000 men to complete our establishments."
