ANOTHER SOLDIER'S SUICIDE.

Duncdin, Last Night, At an early hour this morning, in the Dunedin hospital, a returned'' soldier named William John Willis was found by one of the nurses with his throat cut, and a razor in his hand. He was brought back to New Zealand on the Maheno, arid when admitted to hospital was suffering from dysentery. Deceased was ii widower and resided in Duncdin. SOLDIERS' DEATHS. Wellington, Jan. 8. The death occurred at the Victoria Hospital yesterday afternoon on Private .lefl'rey Coupland, who was admitted to the institution, on December ifllh from the May Morn camp, suffering from appendicitis. He underwent an operation on Wednesday. The deceased was twenty-one years of age, and belonged to Auckland. ' He was a member of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade reinforcements. A soldier named J. Thokn collapsed in one of the city streets yesterday afternoon, and expired while being convoyed to the district hospital in the ambulance No particulars concerning the deceased were available last night. WATERSIDE WORKERS' DEATH. Wellington, Jan. 8. An inquest was commenced to-day to ascertain (he cause of the death of August Williams, a waterside worker, who collapsed a few days ago while working on the steamer Ocean Monarch. Dr. 11. A. 11. Gilmer, in giving evidence, expressed the opinion that heart failure was the immediate cause, of death. DISCOVERY IN NEWTON PARK. Wellington, Jan. 8. The body of an old-age pensioner, named William Isaac Wilshire, was found hanging to a tree in Newtown Park yesterday morning, close to Russell Terrace. Deceased, who resided in Gordon Street, was last seen alive by his son on Thursday afternoon. He is said to have been low-spirited since the death of his wife in September last, A note, found on the body, addressed to the Coroner, contained an intimation that the old man intended lo take his life.

COLLAPSED IX A CAB Wellington, Jan. S. Thomas Phelan, aged 54 years, a resident of Abel Smith Street, died in a cab on (he way to the hospital at 4.50 p.m. yesterday. Deceased had suffered from dropsy, and had been attended for some time past by a medical man, who will certify as to the cause of death.
