ON THE SEA.
BRITISH SUBMARINE SUNK. THE CREW SAVED. Wellington, Saturday. The High Commissioner reports under date London, January 7 (12.10 p.m.):— The Admiralty announce the siskin? I.i a submarine off Texel Island (HoSana) on Thursday. The crew was rescued by a Dutch cruiser. London, January 7. Official.— A British submarine was sunk near Texel. Seeing her signals of • distress, the Dutch cruiser Xoord Brabant took off the entire crew of thirty-three and landed them at Helder. A BRITISH TERRIER. AT WORK IN THE GOLDEN HORN. Received Jan. 9, 5.5 p.m. Athens, Jan. 8. A British submarine from the Sea of Marmora entered the Golden Horn, and attacked and considerably damaged the arsenal. The workmen and inhabitants became panic-stricken, - A STEAMER MINED 500 LIVES LOST. Received Jan. 10, 12.10 a.m. London, Jan. 9. An Italian steamer has been mined in the Adriatic, and two hundred persons perished. THE LUSITANIA MURDER. AN,ACT OF REPRISAL. Washington, January 7. Germany has replied relative to the Lusitania, agreeing to pay compensation for the American Uvea lost, 'contending that the destruction of the Lusitania was an act of reprisal against the British blockade, and giving assurances that the Mediterranean commanders' will not torpedo privately-owned vessels without warning. It is unlikely that America will protest about the sinking of the fersia unless there is better proof that she was torpedoed.
