A Montenegrin communique says: The Auitrianß attacked Goduevo and Turiak, and there hare been important enemy movements at Bilak and Trebinje. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES. , Received Jan. 9, 5.5 p.m. Petrograd, Jan. 9. A communique reports: We captured the town of Czartorysk and a height two Tfrats westward of 'the town. The Aufttriane, using asphyxiating gases, attacked north-east of Czernowitz, but were repulsed. The Turks in the Caucasas assumed the offensive at Akha and under cover of tog reached our artificial defences, whfctt our fire drove them back with heavy losses. An enemy offensive from Ptiwlwabad,. south-east of Hamadan, tas repelled beyond the Kendelian Pass. TURKS IN THE AIR. if*. Received Jan. 9, 5.5 p.m. Rome, Jan. 8, A communique states: By a bold surprise We occupied San Giovanni, on the southern slopes of Monte Speroni. DOINGS IN THE WEST. The Germans occasionally bombard Nancy >vith naval 15-inch guns. ..A communique says that Artillery deftroyed the Chatillon Mills, eastward of Fonttnoy, which the enemy had organiped defensively. Anoihcr communique says: Our artillery destructively bombarded the enemy on the plateau at Nouvrons, of Soissons. Two German poftf were destroyed. Our long-range flrs jthrew an enemy column into confusion north of Etain, and caused a fire in tje neighbouring village. The enemy, which comprised twenty battalions, suffered heavy losses, while ours Were considerable. We held the majority of positions, excepting those at Godocba and Godrevo. AUSTRIA'S CLAIMS. Received Jan 9, 5.5 p.m. ,' Amsterdam, Jan. 8. An Austrian communique estimates that the Russians lost fifty thousand in the New Year fighting on the Bessarabian frontier and Strypa. General von Koevcss has driven the Montenegrins to position* north of Berane, and our advanced troops are within ten kilometres «f Berane.
