THE WHEAT MARKET. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January o. Wheat.—American visible supplies amount to 173,198,000 bushels; Chicago v May options 121% cents to 1-20 cents, July 113% cents to US'/ a cents. A NEW SOUTH WALES LOAN". London, January 4. The Now .South Wales Government is flouting a loan of £2,000,000, dated 1021-23, and hearing interest at the rate of 5 per cent, per annum. The price of issue is £0!) per cent., and the final instalment is due on February 28. The first half-year's interest will be'payablc on July 1. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, December 31, 1015. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) : Mutton and Lamb.—The market is firm, with an upward tendency, owing to short supply 0 f all descriptions of frozen, chilled and home-killed. There are only a few Canterbury carcases offering, and these are selling at 7y,d. Other than Canterbury not quoted. Ewes, still in good demand, but supply very limited, o%d. Lamb: A very brisk demand obtains. Average price to-day for Canterbury two's, 7y 2 d; heavy weights, 7%d; second-class quality, light weights, 7y 4 d; other than Canterbury, 7>/ 3 d for best quality, ordinary quality 7'/ a d. Beef.—The market is firm. There is no prime New Zealand beef on the market. Second-class quality cow, hinds lid, fores ad. Supplies o'f American chilled beef are small; hinds 0y 2 d, fores 6%d.
Butter.—The market is very dull and unsettled during this week, but is steadier to-day, with more business doing. The French Government has temporarily prohibited the export of butter. There is a poor demand for Danish, which is realising 150s to 150s. Australian. 136s to 1425; Siberian, selling slowly, 126s to 1345; Argentine, 136s to 140s; New Zealand, 140s to 1445, unaalted 150s to 1545.
Cheese.—The market is firm : at the advance. Canadian, white and colored, 04s to 955. For New Zealand, prices firm at the close of the market, white and colored 92s to 935, colored occasionally., 945; English Cheddar 100s to 1025,' Cheshire 106s to 110s.
Hemp.—The market remains firm, but is quiet until after the holidays. New Zealand good fair on spot to-day is £39 10s per ton, fair £37 10s; Manila fair £3B 10s. coarse £3f. 10s. For January to Marcli delivery, New Zealand good fair is quoted at £3B 10s, fair £36 10s, Manila fair £47 10s, coarse £3B 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 12,000 bales.
Wheat.—The market is strong. There is a good demand for all descriptions, and prices are advancing. Canadian on spot 63s 6d, for January to Marcli delivery 01s Bd; Australian, January to March steamer 645, sailer 61s.
Oats.—The market is firm, with an improved demand. Argentine on spot 3s, January to Marcli delivery 32s 6d.
Hops—The ma'rket is very quint, and there is nothing doing. Prices are nominal. English 110s to 130 a, Californlan 80s to 100s. Wool.—The market looks very strong, and there are a number of buyers at highest prices. Cocksfoot.—The market is firm owing to reduced supplies. THE BUTTER MARKET. Under date January 3, Mr. Samuel Turner has received the following cable from Messrs J. and J. Lonsdale and Co., Ltd,, London:—"Butter declined to 140s and 1445. Market has holiday character.
