SALVATION ARMY.
THE SILVER BAXD. Miis band, after their very successful visit to New Plymouth, gave a patriotic concert in the Eltham Town Hall on Monday night, when, in spite of counter attractions, there was a failhouse. At Hawera on Tuesday the band was welcomed by the Mayor' (Mr E. Dixon), who in a* very pronounced way spoke of his pleasure at the band's visit. At night the Opera House was taken for the band concert, and, as at other places, encores were numerous On the motion of the Mayor, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, anTl a similar compliment was passed to Mr. Conroy, who gave the use of the Opera House free.
At Stratford on Wednesday night the Town Hall was filled for the 'band's special programme. Brigadier Carmichacl was chairman, and during the evening the Mayor (Mr. J. Boon) gave the band a hearty welcome, and wished them well in their grand work in raising money to help the Serbians. Mr. Boon said that he considered the Salvation Army was one of the best organisation for the distribution of the Serbian relief funds, a? they have their own officers to superintend the work. It had been decided at a public meeting that all monies collected for the Serbian Relief Fund should be transmitted through the Salvation Army. This announcement was greeted with applause. Last night the band gave another fine programme in the Inglewood Town Hall, and to-day they pass through Xew Plymouth and join the Rarawa to-night' for Auckuid. * __,
