ARTILLERY HGHTIN& Paris, Jan. 5. A Belgian communique states that there lias been a violent artillery battle in the Dixmude sector and a fight to our advantage with hand grenades at Steenstraet. Berlin, Jan. 5. Official.—There has been considerable fighting with artillery and mines along the Franco-Belgian front. The results are not detailed. LATEST FROM THE WEST. ENEMY'S ATTACKS INEFFECTIVE. Received Jan. 8, 9.50 p.m. London, Jan. 6. General Sir Douglas Haig reports:— We drove off, with rifle fire, the enemy's attack on our advanced posts near Marieourt. A number of our aeroplanes successfully bombed the enemy's aerodrome at Douai, and a German aeroplane bombed Boulogne without doing damage. Paris, Jan. G. A communique states: The Germans strongly attacked the trenches at Hill 193 (Tahure), but were completely repulsed. AN AUSTRIAN DISPATCH. Paris, Jan. 5. An Austro-Hungarian communique states that a Rusian attack along the Galician-Bukowina front failed. The Austrian lines are unbroken. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES CONTINUE. Received Jan. 6, 9.55 p.m. Petrograd, Jan. 6. A communique says: We seized further positions north-eastwards of Czemovitz. There were heavy enemy losses.
Paris, Jan. 6. A communique reports: We wrecked several trenches in the Champagne district and exploded ammunition gepots.
