THE DARDANELLES

ROLL OF HONOR.

AT LOGGERHEADS. WANTED MORE TROOPS. GENERAL HAMILTON'S DISPATCH. 'Received Jan. 0, ft.S." p.m. London, Jan. fi. General Hamilton's dispatch, dealing with the Gallipoli operations, covers thirty-eight pages, double-column, of the London Gazette, of which fourteen page* are appendices showing the orders commanding and covering the disembarkation and attacks.

Dealing with the failure at Suvla, General Hamilton says that this was due to divisional commanders not pressing the attacks. After the failure General Hamilton asked for 50,000 reinforcements, and' also for 45,000 men to bring up the establishment, so as to enable tile troops to clear the passage to Constantinople. Lord Kitchener replied that it was impossible, and, later, cabled asking for an estimate of the losses in case of evacuation. General Hamilton replied that evacuation seemed impossible, and he was thereupon recalled to London. '
