A MELBOURNE TRAGEDY. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, January 5. *S\ tragedy occurred at Fitzroy. A man named Raymond Victor Dawson «ave himself up to the police and confessed to fatally shooting Vera May Parks. Dawson averts that the woman stayed the night with him, and in the morning he followed her to the kitchen, carrying a supposedly unloaded revolver. He jokingly said he would shoot the woman, wiio replied that ho could not shoot a worm. He jestingly levelled a revolver and pulled the trigger. Instead of an audible click the revolver went oil', killing the woman. Dawson was arrested and charged with murder. FIRE IN .QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, January 4. A fire destroyed eleven shops and a residence in the main street at Dalby. The damage is in the vicinity -of £30,000. SYDNEY LORD MAYORALTY. Sydney, January 4. Pending a Cabient. meeting on Thursday to select a Lord Mayor of Sydney, an unprecedented position has arisen In that there is no Mayoral head. The delay to business at the Town Hall is causing much inconvenience.
