AMUSEMENTS.

EMPIRE THEATRE* A LUBIN STAR TO-NIGHT. The chief item on a remarkably wellassorted programme to be screened at the Empire to-night is a Lubin dramatic masterpiece entitled "Whom the Gods Would Destroy," a story that sweeps along with great dramatic power, written with extraordinary skill, and a big knowledge of humanity—a drama of exceptional people driven by force of circumstances to desperate actions. Hate, greed and intrigue, admirably blended and skilfully interwoven with a refreshing little romance, provide the theme for a story that has plenty of grip. Interesting topical news is contained in the current number of the Australian Gazette and there is an interesting industrial film by the Gaumont manufacturers and several supporting pictures of .outstanding merit. THEATRE ROYAIt "THE MASTER KEY" TO-NIGHT. The Royal Pictures management will introduce a big triple star programme at the Theatre Royal this evening. The mysterious and sensational serial picture, ''The Master Key," will commence with a thoroughly interesting and startling series of thrilling events that will increase the determination of every weal picture patron to see each of the fifteen episodes that comprise this story. The second big attraction is a thoroughly laughable Keystone comedy, "Fatty's Tintype Tangle." which film had an immense run at the Empress Theatre in Wellington, a few weeks back, Wellington picture patrons being unanimous in proclaiming this picture the funniest ever shown in the Empire City. The third big attraction is a forceful Thanhouser drama, "Outcasts of Society," and amongst the supporting items there is a film showing the wounded soldiers landing at Chrislehurch. The prices of admission will remain as usual.
