THE ANZAC WITHDRAWAL. POSITION OF THE UNITS. Wellington, Jan. 4. The following special cable has been received from the New Zealand official war correspondent, dated December 23: "The position of the units before the evacuation was a s follows: The New Zealanders were now in the firing-line, improved in health, and were again a fine lighting unit. They occupied trenches on the left, overlooking the fourth Knijak Dere round to the head of Aghyl Here. The Mounted Rifles of the Australian Brigade continued the line to Cheshire Ridge, which is below Chunuk Bair. Then came the New Zealand Infantry Brigade, the Wellington, Canterbury, and Auckland Battalions in that order holding the ground they won so gloriously in August, up to what we call Canterbury Slope. On Rhododendron Ridge they joined on to the Third and First Australian Light Horse, who held the rest of our trenches lound to the right slopes of Saxle Beit Dere. The Australian Division held all the re9t of the ground from' Walker's Ridge to Lone Pine and Brighton Beach."

Constantinople, Jan. 4. A Turkish official dispatch states that heavy battles have occurred at the Dardanelles. A hostile cruiser and a monitor retired after a heavy bombardment of our positions. Near Ari Burnu concealed cases of enemy ammunition were discovered.
