OUTBREAK OF FEVER.
OASES IN NEW PLYMOUTH, Some littlo time ago there was an out* Weak of enteric fever in a boarditt. house in New Plymouth, and altogether seven oases have been admitted to the hospital, One of the patients—Alexander Rca, a carpenter, of New Plymouthdied yesterday morning. The last ttte reported was on December 29. The medical superintendent of the hospital (Dr. E. A. Walker) stated yesterday that the outbreak was a very aerloUi one, and the position was intensified by the fact that the exact location of infection had not yet been discovered. He stated that Dr. Smith, of the Health Department, had visited two places whore it was suspected the infection arose, and he would report to the authorities at Wellington. It is believed that bad drainage and the unusually liot weather before Christmas were primarily responsible for the outbreak. The gravity of enteric fever breaking out in the town at this time of the year cannot be minimised, and while the authorities are taking comprehensive measures to check the outbreak, residents are warned to exercise particular caft in respect of drainage and rubbish.
