The announcement that the New Zealand troops spent Christmas away from the dangers of shot and shell has caused much speculation as to whence they went after the evacuation. The Prime Minister, who is staying in Auckland, when asked on Wednesday morning if it were now possible to announce the whereabouts of the troops, emphatically replied in the negative. He observed (says the Star) that he fully appreciated the anxiety of parents and relatives on the point, but the location of the force was a matter of very explicit instructions on the part of the militant authorities, and ho was unable even to give any intimation as to when the announcement of their whereabouts was likely to be forthcoming.
