TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. CHRISTMAS MEETING. SECOND DAY'S RESULTS. Favored with mild, if, at times, threatening weather, the Taranaki Jockey Club's 1915 Christmas meeting was yesterday brought to a very successful conclusion, both from a financial standpoint and also from the view of sport. The former is particularly gratifying, as the profits from this and the February meeting are to be devoted to patriotic purposes. There was again a large attendance, the mild weather tempting the fair sex to don their lightest and gayest apparel, providing a beautiful kaleidoscopic effect on the emerald sward i of the lawn, which for the day was the rendezvous of the Taranaki sporting public. Again the fields were good, and the finishes were exciting, reflecting on the skill of the handicapper, whilst the smallness of the dividends showed that the public were equally keen at sorting out the winners. The starting, save in the New Plymouth Handicap, was yood. In the race named some of the horses considerably exercised the patience of the starter (Mr. T. Cameron) who, how. ever, finally despatched the field to a good start. Keen followers of sport considered that fining several of the jockeys would have had a salutary effect, and it was astonishing to find such a "mix-up" was allowed to go unpunished. A worse "box" has seldom been seen on any course. The meeting passed off without anything unpleasant to mar it, save that in the Hurdle Race White Plume fell, breaking her neck, but the jockey (A. Gordon) escaped without injury. A feature of the day was the fine riding of 0. McCarten, who secured the "hattrick" with three successive victories. The arrangements were again perfect in every respect, the secretary (Mr. E. P. Webster) and his staff of assstants having everything right up to the moment.
Tlie totalisator receipts amounted to £17,W5, as against £16,156 for the second day last year, an increase of £1589. The total for the two days amounted to £30,648 10s, an increase of £4215 10s on the registered amount at last Christmas meeting, when the returns were £32.435. Mr. O'Callaghan had charge of this department ror the club, andy speculators had nothing to complain of. Mr. A. Wooller (catering), Mrs. Kirkby (afternoon tea) and Mr. E. Whittle (refreshment 'booth) all fept these important details right up to their usual high standard. The New Plymouth Citizens' Band, under Bandmaster Cummings, rendered a fine programme of music. The following are the results of the carded events:—
FITZROY HACK HANDICAP, of 100 sovs., seven furlongs. 2 Mr. Toon's br.g. Zola (Sweet Simon —Zaida). 3vrs, 7.11 (Stevenson) 1 3 Mr. E. Childe's b.g. Paraoa, 7.9 (Price) 3 1 Mr. P. Bolton's b.g. Zola and White Blaze showed out first from a fairly even start, in which, however, Henry Clay was left several lengths behind. Racing along to the High School bend Paraoa dashed up to the leaders, and Mahlstick put in a temporary challenge. A good finish down the straight resulted in Zola holding command and winning by a length, the favorite half a length away. Time, lmin 30 2-ssec. INGLEWOOD HANDICAP (open), of 100 sovs. Six furlongs. 2 Mr. T. F. Goddard's br.g. Tirana (Coronet —Tarina), 4vrs, 7.5 (C. Monk) ' 1 1 Mr. A. Raynes' br.g. King Chiara, 7.10 (W. Kaniki jumped away at the start and led along the back stretch from Grattan and Tyson, Avon Park 'lying last. At the bend Tyson displaced Grattan, and King Chiara and Tirana made a forward move. Kaniki led into the stright, two lengths in front of the field, but at the distance Tirana and King Chiara put in their claims, and a good finish resulted in half lengths separat-
mg the placed horses. Kaniki wasfourth and Simple Sam fifth. Time, 1 ;.min IS r 2Hssec, 7 SUMMER HACK HANDICAP, of 100 aove. Six furlongs. l"Mr. R. Barlow's b.c. Depredation and Calais moved up at the School bend, and Bivouac dropped back. Entering the straight Depredation was in command, and at the distance Bivouac again shot up, but could not catch the favorite, who won easily by a length and a-half, Bivouac two lengths in front of Glacier, Time, lmin 16 2-osec. / TARATA HACK HURDLES HANDICAP, of 125 sovs., one mile and a half and 100 yards. Cornice led over the first hurdle, followed bv Epworth and Vladian, and at the oenj tm order was Cornice, Knocknagow, White Plume, Royal Patron, Vladian and Epworth. Passing tne stand the first time the order remained the same, but at King's corner Knocknagow took command and led the field along the back stretch by several lengths. White Plume, who was running third, came to grief at the back fence, and rounding the High School bend Knocknagow led by several lengths from Vladian and Cornice. The leader's victory was loudly proclaimed, but Vladian repeated his first day's performance and headed the leader one hundred yards from home, winning by a length and a-half, with Cornice a good dozen lengths away, Epworth and Royal Patron a long way back. Time, 2min ofisec.
White Plume broke her neck when she fell, but Gordon (the rider) escaped injury).

The order was maintained along the back stretch till the bend for home, where Royal Dragoon faded away and Ratana, who had been lying handy on the rails, moved forward. Along the back stretch Glacier displaced Collector and drew level with Syntax, the two being three lengths ahead of the field. At the School turn, Sir Fishei moved up, but could not last and on entering the straight Collector put in another claim and displaced Glacier.
