To the Editor. Sir—There lias recently appeared in the paper* some comments by "Taxpayer" on the above-named subject, particularly in reference to the Native Department, and the maintenance of the representatives on the Privy Council. By a press cable of recent date it will be seen that the Privy Council representative (Sir Joshua Wiliams has passed away, thus creating the opportunity for abolishing this unnecessary office. Will our representatives in Parliament now rise to the occasion and see that this extravagance is not repeated? We are more in need of passable roads in the bush districts than costly toys at Westminster.—l am, etc., ANOTHER TAXPAYER.
